Governor Obado displays his prowess in Taekwondo

Migori governor Okoth Obado yesterday stunned the crowds at Heritage annex as he displayed his prowess in taekwondo.

This was as he presided over the awards ceremony of inter-county Taekwondo tournament that feted the best teams in the country.

Teams drawn from different counties had battled out for various titles in a two day event that took place in Migori town.

The tournament involved both junior and senior teams with winners in each category being awarded medals and trophies.

Migori taekwondo team emerged overall winners and the team received an extra award of uniforms with governor Obado pledging to buy them a mat for their commendable performance.

During the event, Governor Obado urged Kenyans to use sporting activities to enhance cohesion among different regions in the Country.

“I want to say that I will encourage those things that will be bringing us together and make us feel that we are part of the Kenyan family,” Obado said.

Obado said taekwondo is practiced as a defensive and not an offensive sport and urged the participants not to go about disrupting the peace of others.

“This is not a sport that you will feel like beating up people after any given game. It is a game of the highest level of discipline,” Obado said.

Obado said it is through practicing taekwondo and boxing that he got the integrity and discipline he boasts of.

He asked the young boys and the youth to embrace taekwondo as it had great potential that could change their lives.
