The tour of first lady Margaret Kenyatta in Migori county has been abruptly cancelled after leaders disagreed over venue and her tight schedule.

Central Sakwa MCA Johnson Owiro who is privy of the meeting said they received information from governor Okoth Obado that the meeting has been cancelled.

Owiro said details about cancellation of the visit were scanty.

“We have been organizing the trip through the office of the governor and the communication about the cancellation was communicated to us yesterday by the Governor,” said Owiro.

Through Obado’s press secretary Nicholas Anyuor, the trip has been cancelled due to her busy schedule.
“Her visit is cancelled indefinitely due to her busy schedule,” Anyuor said.

The cancellation comes after President Uhuru Kenyatta visit to Nyanza was also cancelled.

Joshua Kuttuny said Uhuru’s visit was rescheduled because MPs from the region had requested for more time to prepare for the tour.

And now that the First Lady’s tour of the region has been cancelled, questions are lingering over the double cancellation of two presidential events in Nyanza.

Sources close to the Governor intimated that there were controversies over where Mrs Kenyatta was to be hosted as a section.

Last Friday Awendo MCAs led by Owiro said she was to be hosted at Sony Guest House due to security reasons.

“Awendo people are known to be peaceful people and this is what the President knows very well because we welcomed him warmly when he passed here. But on reaching Migori Town he was received with hostility,” Owiro said.

Owiro insisted her tour will end at Awendo Sub County to avoid any ugly incident.
