A suspected Coronavirus contact person with a Siaya county deceased patient was traced to Sukari Industries weighbridge in Opapo, Rongo constituency.
The weighbridge owned by Ndhiwa based Sukari Industries has been closed, sending panic in the area.
The tractor driver was in contact with the Kenya Ports Authority employee who died mysteriously in Siaya County and later confirmed that he was corona positive after blood sample had been taken to KEMRI in Kisumu County and tested positive.
He was in contact with the late James Oloofor several hours after he had been involved in road accident and his vehicle was extensively damaged.
“He even helped the deceased to town the vehicle to Awasi police station before he proceeded home,” a Homa Bay county health officer said.
Health officer and police also rounded up several citizens believed to had been in contact with the driver.
“They are in isolation facilities and their tests will be taken to Kemri Kisumu for further analysis,” the officer said.
Panic gripped Sukari industry surroundings as some employees were spotted escaping snubbing the agencies following the case but the agencies promised to follow them up to their villages as they need to be isolated for 14 days and undergo thorough screening before they are allowed to go home.
Addressing the media at Opapo top security and health officials from Homa-Bay and Migori County agreed to contain spread of the virus in the regions and appealed to residents of the two counties to be on the look out for any suspected case and report to relevant authorities for necessary action.
