Anyanga, Kopiyo lead Migori in Okoa Kenya drive

Nyatike MP Edick Anyanga and his Awendo counterpart Jared Kopiyo led several Okoa Kenya rallies over the weekend.

In Nyatike constituency, Anyanga said Kenyans need to head for the referendum to help unlock funds holed up in the national government.

Anyanga who signed the Okoa Kenya signature book said the leaders from across the political divide should come together and ensure the articles to be voted for are agreed.

“Organisations, civil society and unions should take this opportunity to push through contested agenda in the constitution,” he said.

He urged teachers’ union in the country to support referendum to help check their welfare in teachers’ recruitment.

In Awendo Kopiyo led three Cord MPs to rally the people behind the initiative by emphasizing the rationale behind the referendum initiative.

Kopiyo was accompanied by Agustino Netto (Ndhiwa), Ken Obura (Kisumu Central) and David Ochieng’ (Ugenya).
They said the referendum will be the only way to salvage this country from tribalism, corruption, bad governance among other things which are ailing Kenyans.

“Referendum is the right of all Kenyans, Jubilee government has no authority to claim to oppose the initiative on the ground of inadequate funds to finance the process,” Kopiyo said.

The legislator said that the constitution guarantees any Kenyan citizen to amend the constitution if need be.
He challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta for an inclusive governance saying that all Kenyans have the right to any job position.

Kopiyo said that the criteria under which job opportunities are given in Kenya is based on tribal lines.

Obura on his side said the government should take the responsibility of addressing certain critical issues like poverty and disease in all counties.

He said that it is needless to do a research on issues like HIV/AID but fails to give relevant support to combat the menace.

He said the national government must provide funds to help fight poverty in all parts of the country without considering political affiliation.

Netto said government must know that sovereignty belongs to the citizens of Kenya and they are entitled to amend the constitution whether the president is supporting it or not.

He said he will table a motion to impeach Uhuru if he continuous to violate the constitution of Kenya immediately after the end of the referendum.
