Migori deputy governor Mwita Mahanga has come out to defend his long absence from the limelight in the County.

Speaking to Migori News over phone, Mahanga said his absence has nothing to do with bad blood with Migori Governor Okoth Obado.

Migori residents have over the recent months been asking about the whereabouts of the DG following his long absence since September last year.

His absence reached its peak last Friday during the burial of Obado’s mother-in-law at Kadika

During the funeral, the mention of Mahanga was hushed and his seat was taken by ODM leader Raila Odinga’s wife Ida.

“My relation with the governor is that I am his deputy by law and action, I am just deposed on personal health matters. Nothing else,” Mahanga said

Mahanga said he was away because of illness and this was not a secret among his colleagues at the County government.

“My absence on Friday was out of health issues, my governor and several colleagues in the county government are aware,” Mahanga said.

The Deputy Governor said he is currently undergoing treatment in Nairobi and was recovering well.

During the Friday funeral Obado blamed leaders who skipped the function as those who have been at the forefront in criticizing him.

“I think some of us are really disappointing us, who don’t we sit down this involve unity has been spoken over and over unfortunately there are just few elements who are very good at destroying and polling people apart,” Obado said.

The only local leaders present were Uriri MP Mark Nyamita and Awendo MP Walter Owino were present, the senator Ochillo Ayacko, Women Representative Pamela Odhiambo and seven legislators were absent.

For months, apart from few appearances in his Kuria area, Mahanga has kept away from his office and official functions.
