The handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta helped end calls for secession of the country, NASA leader Raila Odinga said.

He was speaking on Sunday during the homecoming ceremony of Migori Woman Representative Pamela Odhiambo.

Odinga said they personally talked with Kenyatta before the handshake and they agreed to end the animosity in the country.

“The political animosity could have led into secession. When I met with Kenyatta we agreed to end the division of the country, which could have tarnished his legacy in office,” Odinga said.

He said apart from the unity, they will strive to have nationhood, end electoral malpractices and runaway corruption.

“This will be the best legacy left by Kenyatta in his second term,” he said.

Odhiambo said Migori was solidly behind Raila and the handshake saying “Whoever is against the unity of Kenyans is an enemy of Kenyans. We fully encourage and support the handshake.”

She said Raila was their eye in the State House to ensure opposition regions develop.

Suna West MP Peter Masara and his Uriri counterpart Mark Nyamita said through the handshake they will ensure they roads in the county are completed through tarmacking projects which have since stalled.

Others present included Tom Odege (Nyatike MP), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo MP), Otiende Amollo (Rarieda MP), Millie Mabona (Mbita MP), nominated MP Jackline Oduol, Cleophas Malala (Kakamega senator), Amoth Rasanga (Siaya governor) and James Orengo (Siaya senator)
