Migori town based Micontrap-Kenya has said civic organisations have been forced to scale down on their targets amid Covid-19 scare.

Micontrap-Kenya officials told Migori News said fear of economic downtown in the globe, increased cases of Gender Based Violence and measure to control the spread of the virus has affected their work.

“Last year we reached our maximum target as we had unlimited number of participants in events this time we are faced with 15 when in building and fewer numbers in open areas,” Colletta Bwahi, the chairperson of Micontrap-Kenya said.

She said in functions they have also been forced with giving sanitisers, face-masks and empowerment on Covid-19 before they begin.

“We have been faced with people who are forced to cut their clothes to be used as face masks to attend our functions, we can’t leave them in that state and claim to help the society,” Bwahi said.

Alvin Otieno, Micontrap-Kenya Project Coordinator said even in the office they have been forced to maintain social distance, place hand-washing points, sanitizer and reduce number of visitors.

“We are keen to continue working as cases of GBV and female genital mutilation will never go down,” Otieno said.

Faith Chacha, the organisation Field Officer said they are facing few targets compared to last year as their coordinators on the field have been forced to report on homesteads.

“Before, mass gathering places like schools, funeral and church were our main target areas. Those have since been closed, which has seen us go from door-to-door” she said.

The three officials said they have already communicated with their partners to put them abreast at several measures they have taken.
