Migori police on Monday trying to control demonstrators against the Supreme Court ruling are accused of shooting dead a harmless clinical officer.

Angry residents paraded the body of Erick Madela across town after he was shot in the groin while kneeling down and raising his hands in front of Mombasa Hotel in Migori town.

The medic was with a colleague as they tried to rescue a hurt demonstrator when police accosted them.

“The colleague lied down on the ground while Mandela was kneeling down and raising his hand when he was shot dead by police at close range. He had identified himself as a medic,” a witness said.

Attempts by police and Kenya Red Cross society volunteers to pick the body and take it to Oruba Nursing Home failed demonstrators picked it and paraded it in town.

“The officer shot him is known in Migori town, we want justice to be taken,” a demonstrator chanted.

The body was taken to Migori level four mortuary after attempts to take it to Migori police headquarters failed.
