Micontrap-Kenya organise a workshop for bench making on FGM, GBV and gender related issue in Migori town that brought together stakeholders

Micontrap Kenya, a non-government organisation in Migori county have got their board chairperson from the Kuria community for the first time in eight years.

Colleta Boke Bwahi a community mobiliser for the past decade in the Kuria community will take part at the helm of the organisation in a new four year period programme.

“We have for the first time a chairperson from the Kuria community in the area, we count on Bwahi’s community mobilization experience to help end the vice not only among Kuria but also in the Maasai community whre we work,” Benter Ombwayo, Micontrap-Kenya external coordinator said.

Speaking to Migori News at the organisation’s headquarters in Migori town, Ombwayo said apart from Bwahi they have Faith Chacha as the Kuria region field officer and Evaline Nanyokia as the youth mobiliser.

“The team has been with Micontrap for long, Evaline was part of our youths who shunned the vice as kids to date,” Ombwayo said.

Colleta said they have been working closely with community members to ensure the vice is completely eradicated from the community.

“We know in the next four years we will make it better in ending the vice and gender based violence in Kuria community, this is a plus for us,” Bwahi said.

Chacha and Nanyokia called on community to come together and shun FGM.
