Two suspected cattle rustlers lynched in Kuria East

Two suspected thieves in Kuria East were lynched by an angry mob while a third person escaped death narrowly in a separate incident in Migori town.

Angry Kuira East ob beat up Raphael Barisore and Wambura Wangi and then later torched their bodies before the police arrived at the scene.

Kibesi Location chief Joseph Mwita said the two were suspected to be behind a spate of cattle rustling in the area and were found in possession of stolen goods.

“Wangi was found in possession of a goat that had been reported missing previously, when he failed to explain how he acquired it he was lynched,” Mwita said.

Kuria region has been on the limelight previously over frequent cattle rustling and proximity to Tanzania also allows many perpetrators to escape through porous border.

“The second victim is suspected to be among a gang that crossed over to Tanzania and raided a market. He was found in possession of broken padlock and property worth thousands of shillings believed to be from the market,” he added.

The killing of the two suspects brought the killings in the region to four in the last two weeks.

Meanwhile in Migori town a suspected thief identified as Ochieng’ escaped narrowly after he jumped off a fire was set to torch him.

He was suspected to be behind a spate of motorbike thieves in the area and was saved by police officers.
