Awendo man has been sentenced by the Rongo Senior Resident Magistrate court for 20 years for defiling his sister-in-law, 13.

Juma Musa Manyala was charged with defilement and indecent act on the minor as she was heading home in Awendo town on August 4.

Rongo magistrate Raymond Langat said seven witnesses produced by the state confirmed the crime while the suspect never produced any witness to back his innocence with his defense that he was being framed by his mother-in-law over dowry being baseless.

The court heard that Manyala attacked and pinned the minor on the ground where he performed the heinous act before a passerby threw a stone at him when he fled.

In mitigation, Manyala said he was an orphan who was a breadwinner to his other siblings.

He has 14 days to appeal the judgment.
