The truth behind the aborted Kalonzo, Wetangula’s Awendo fundraiser

By MN Reporter
Political rivalry among county leaders led to the cancelation of the eagerly anticipated Awendo fundraiser which was to be led by former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka
The fundraiser failed to take after a legislator from the county allegedly warned Musyoka and other guests that tension was high on the ground and that something bad could happen if they came.
Among those who had been expected to attend the fundraiser included Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula, Senators Johnstone Muthama, Bonny Khalwale and other 30 invited MPs.
Speaking to Migori News on phone, a visibly angry Awendo MP Jared Kopiyo who was to play host to the team accused a certain legislator from the county of ‘spreading lies’ about the event and forcing the team to skip the harambee.
“It is unfortunate that some leaders have decided to play politics with development,” Kopiyo said, adding that it was wrong for an elected leader from the county to stop development from coming into the county.
According to the legislator, anybody who had any information about tension or insecurity in the constituency could have first confirmed with him as the area MP before rushing to scare his visitors away.
He further cautioned leaders against playing politics with development in his constituency and said nothing will deter him from organising fundraiser to help uplift his constituents.
At the same time, he called upon the county residents to shun leaders who are only interested in politics and were not bringing any development in the county.
