The Qatar Charity has donated a three classroom madrasa, office and a four door toilet to Migori Muslim Primary School in Migori town.
The community on Tuesday welcomed a donation when the charity handed over newly constructed madrasas.
“Before this donation our students who wanted to seek madrasa classes were forced to go to a nearby mosque where exisiting classes are few and squeezed,” Omar Faisal, the chairman of the school Board of Management said.
Dekah Jamaa, a member of the school’s board said the madrasas will not only help students at the school, but also those from across the town and religion.
Duncan Otieno Onyango, who is a Christian who took part in construction work for past one month said throughout the period there was no discrimination based on religion.
“This is a public school which has muslims, christians and those from other religion. This building, from interaction I saw with the charity first hand will help foster unity and peace,” he said.
Abdulahi Oriaro, a parent said “most parents were afraid of taking their children to the mosque to learn Arabic and muslim religion, and a school setting of establishing the madrasas will help in integration.”
Shariff Omar Hajj, an officer with Qatar Charity said apart from the madrasa they have plans to drill boreholes, build classes and educate orphans and vulnerable children in Migori across religious boundary.
