Migori police are holding six students following unrest at Mwache Mixed Secondary School on May 30 evening.

The suspects from the school in Suna East sub county were arrested over school unrest which left property of unknown value destroyed.

Police boss Joseph Nthenge said the suspects are at Migori police station after principal Ronald Mwakavale alerted them.

“The students who were arrested are suspected to be ringleaders of the school unrest. Several school properties including windows were destroyed by the student before the police  arrived at the school to control the situation,” Nthenge said.

They were protesting over the  transfer of the school deputy Principal Churchil Olima.

Students demanded that the school principal  and the matron be transferred instead of the school deputy head teacher.

Suna East sub county deputy county commissioner Daniel Mutiso said education officers have been sent to the school to investigate the matter and recommend for action.

On Monday, Ngisiru Mixed Day Secondary School in Kuria West closed indefinitely a week after Kibuon Mixed School in Nyatike.

Migori county Education Director Elizabeth Otieno said at Ngisiru, students were demanding redress over bad food, wanted the school changed into boarding and their principal transferred.

At Kibuon, outgoing principal Kennedy Odero received his transfer latter to Wi Obiero Secondary school in Homa Bay county which prompted the unrest.
