Migori town market traders have asked governor Okoth Obado to ensure a month long water shortage is resolved.

Led by Tobias Omino, the chairman of traders at the market, they said they are staring cholera outbreak as the market has become filthy.

Omino said Migori town residents are eating fish washed by feces infested water of polluted Migori river as traders don’t have any alternative.

“It is a month without water at the market and when we inquire were told the water was disconnected over Sh2million electricity bill, that is peanuts compared to taxes collected here daily,” Omino said.

He said a multimillion water and sanitation project by World Bank within town and the market is useless when electricity bills and connection can’t be met.

“When toilets were launched here we thought it was a blessing, but now without money they are a tickling health hazard,” Omino said.

He said “we wish our governor come to our aid as hotel businesses are suffering the most.”

The shortage with extends to Migori town has raised commitment by the county government in providing clean and water to residents.

Taps are dry e days only two weeks after major water shortage hit the ens=tire county.

Speaking to press Migori county minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Water development Isca Oluoch claimed she was going to find out the problem.
