Is Migori senator Ochillo Ayacko considering to pick youthful activist and mobiliser Rhoda Robi Nchagwa as his deputy for 2022 governor race?

Insiders have said Ayacko has been considering heavily to pick a female deputy this time round after having Lucas Mosenda in 2017 when he unsuccessfully tried to vie for governor seat.

“Both Mosenda and Nchagwa hail from the Bukira clan, and should Ayacko decide to pick a female deputy for joint ODM ticket, then all bets are placed on her,” an insider said.

Deputy Governor?

A fortnight ago, Ayacko was installed as a Kuria elder at Korasora grounds a function which was attended by several leaders across the county including Kuria which Nchagwa attended.

Among many leaders who talked and facilitated the event from Kuria, Nchagwa stood out putting in pace rumours abut her deputy post.

Nchagwa has been a girl and women rights activist

Afterwards she has been among many women leaders who have been accompanying Ayacko’s wife Agnes in Kuria and recently hosted her at Ngukumahando area in Gokeharaka/Gitambwega ward in Kuria East constituency where she hails from.

Nchagwa, from Bukira clan hails from the ward and is married to a security officer who also hails from Bukira clan and lives in Kuria West constituency.

She stands a better chance of being supported by leaders in the Kuria area

Her push seems to be coming from Kuria East MP Marwa Kitayama who is from Nyabasi clan and would want to have the deputy governor position filled by a member of Bukira sub-clan which hails from the small Gokeharaka-Gitambwega clan.

In Kuria East the Bukira clan forms a pocket of population but is key in deciding a legislator as the other Bwirege clan always give candidates in the ballot.

in Kuria West, MP Mathias Robi who hails from the Bugumber clan will also be comfortable with her push.

Both Robi and Kitayama have in the past supported Ayacko’s bid which is aided as Nchagwa, unlike other Kuria elites eyeing the Deputy Governor seat has not been tainted with interest of seeking other seats like in wards, county and constituency.

“I fully support Ayacko’s candidate and like most members of the Kuria community know he stands a better chance of being the second governor and will offer us a better deal in development and respect that what we currently have,” she said.

She said she has a masters degree from University of Nairobi in Gender and is upbeat about having any position in Migori and nationally to pass through the development agenda.

In an interview with Migori News, Nchagwa refused to directly accept the Deputy Governor talk but said the most important aspect in 2022 general elections is to ensure Ayacko is the next governor.
