Migori police have stepped up investigations after arresting two suspected thieves for stealing bed from Kehancha Sub-county hospital.

Kuria West police boss Cleti Kimaiyo told Migori News, they have expanded the investigation to include Migori county health department officials who allowed the beds to be taken from the hospital.

Kehancha town residents have complained of poor services at the hospital which even lacks basic medicine, with the latest case being a insult on service delivery by the ministry of health.

On August 8, Solomon Rioba a cleric in Kehancha town grew suspicious as a vehicle, KCF 661N of Isuzu model was at the hospital collecting beds.

Residents said two other vehicles escaped their dragnet with beds and other hospital equipment stolen from Kehancha Hospital

Rioba reported the matter at Kehancha police station, and when police officers were slow to respond he organised angry residents to led a citizen arrest of the driver and the businessman.

Kuria West police boss Cleti Kimaiyo said the two claimed they had bought the beds as scrap metal, but the beds were still new.

“The two suspects, a driver and the businessman were arrested and claimed the beds were auctioned off on August 3 in a county sale of vehicles and scrap metals,” Kimaiyo said.

He said the two produced a forged auction certificate and said they were authorized by health department officials to steal the beds.

“When we called the auctioneer he refused to have authorized or sold any beds at Kehancha hospital, hospital officials also refused to ok any sale but failed to explain how the vehicle was able to access the hospital and load the beds,” he said.

The vehicle was taken to Kehancha police station while the two suspects were released on a police bond pending investigations.
