Women groups in Migori have been awarded with cheques shs. 5.1 million through the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).

Thirty four women groups from all the eight sub-counties in Migori applied for the revolving fund and were awarded with cheques of varying amounts.

Speaking at Piny Oyie in Suna West sub-county, Migori Women Representative Dr. Pamela Odhiambo urged the groups to make good use of the funds to improve their livelihoods.

“These groups that are here today have shown some effort and I want to urge them to make good use of this money to improve their livelihoods,” Dr. Odhiambo said.

This included groups that run small industries that add value to local products such as milk, groundnuts and pawpaw.

The Office of the Women Representative also launched a programme to ensure members of the public access various government services at grass root level.

“We currently only have one Huduma Center which is situated Migori town but today I came with officers from Huduma Center to serve the people here,” Dr. Odhiambo said.

She said her office will from time to time facilitate the movement of officers from Huduma Center to reach more people in the grass roots.

Chief Administrative Secretary for Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Ministry Rachel Shebesh who graced the occasion noted the difference in the allocation of funds and promised to lobby for more funds for the County.

“I have read out the amount of money that you are going to receive but it is too little to clap for but I promise to ensure more funds are brought to Migori County,” Shebesh said.

Shebesh encouraged groups to ensure the money is paid back to ensure more groups in the county benefit from the money.
