Osiri Matanda gold miner buried alive, 23 escape with injuries after mines collapse

A gold miner died after he was buried alive while 23 others escaped with minor injuries after a mine collapsed at Osiri Matanda in Migori county.

Nyatike deputy county commissioner Paul Langat confirmed the incident.

He said the walls of the mine collapsed and caved in on them and the 23 were rescued after a few hours after the collapsed.

The deceased has been identified as Elisha Osonye, aged 26 continued.

The body of the man was covered with rumbles as efforts to save him in time hit a snag.

Last month, people living around the area raised concerns after two houses collapsed and others left with cracks.

Some had to flee to other areas as they feared for their lives
