The two have had cold-and-warm political alliances which have often ended up in extremes.

In 2013 when Obado was first elected governor, Gwonyo was his big critic before shifting alliances briefly from county opposition to support Obado in his 2017 re-election.

The short-lived alliance fell through after Obado was sworn in, with rumors that Gwonyo was paid off to cross the opposition floor to support Obado, and went back to be a critic after the agreement fell through.

“Omondi Gwonyo Jauriri, the fellows shedding tears over the bonded vehicles had it coming to them. Their greed, stupidity and sychophancy have nurterured the monster; let it consume them. Don’t waste your sympathy and tears, Wuod Uriri,” Maneno Mwikwabe, former county executive who fell out with Obado posted.

But others were diplomatic like John Paul Oguta who hinted to Gwonyo to let the governor rest: “Let obado enjoy power and wealth in peace, from a high school teacher to governor is a long walk.”

But among all comments, Obado’s son Dan Totto went directly to defend his father with an hint at the deal between Gwonyo and the governor that had a very brief history.

“Return the 700k you took from him (Obado) ati you are going to ‘make’ posta grounds in Migori,” Totto posted, getting 16 reactions.

Okinyi Eston, reaction called on Totto to torn on the attacks.

“Campaign money is paid from personal coffers and not public. Your allegation therefore confirms our worst fears that Obado is indeed a corrupt governor who individualized the position he holds,” Eston posted.

Totto replied that “macha ne campaign nyaka pesa ne tii (that was campaign so money was to be used),”

Gwonyo did not reply directly on Totto’s claims.
