ODM leaders urged to involve in development activities to cut dependence on politicians

Leaders from the Orange Democratic Movement party have been urged to take part in development activities in their regions to help end their overdependence on politicians.

Uriri MP Mark Nyamita said the officials were neglected after party nominations and most of them did not immerse themselves in projects to uplift their livelihoods.

“If you are elected in the party and you go to the village waiting for electioneering period then you again get lost in the village, you are not helping yourself,” Nyamita said

Nyamita said ODM was not impacting this region to the required level because most of its leaders only regroup during party nominations and go their ways and wait for the next five years for the same exercise.

The MP blamed this on division among the leaders hindering them to pursue different activities on a united front.

“It is only through coming together that you are going to benefit from these positions you hold in the party,” the MP said.

He noted that the leaders are not entitled to any salary from the party but jointly taking part in development activities would uplift them financially.

The legislator urged his fellow political leaders to help the party leaders identify different projects to take part in.

“There are several projects that you can do like for instance the youth wing can win a tender to plant trees and I can support them,” he said.

Nyamita also urged the party officials to oversight different projects in their areas and help bring to the attention of various leaders of public projects being done shoddily.

“I also want the party to get involved in community projects that we do in the areas that they reside and help bring to my attention things not being done to the required standard,” Nyamita said.

He was speaking at a meeting with ODM leaders in Uriri constituency.
