Federal Party of Kenya candidate Eddy Oketch has urged governor Okoth Obado supporters not to be distracted by the ongoing court case and vote for him.
October 8 senator by elections will also mark the same date Obado will appear before judge Jessy Lessit for the ruling of his bail application.
Obado and his two aides- Caspal Obiero and Michael Oyamo- are facing murder charges over the death of his pregnant girlfriend Sharon Otieno.
“I have faith that those who support us will leave the matter to the court on that day and come out to vote since we have a political seat to win,” Oketch said.
Before being jailed, Obado threw his weight behind Oketch rejecting his political nemesis Ochilo Ayacko’s ODM direct nomination.
Speaking to the press in Migori town, Oketch said putting the governor behind bars to election date, the court “was not sensitive to electoral justice and current affairs.”
“The court might have not seen it to be political, but people have seen it on a political lens,” he said, saying it was not legally viable to comment on the matter further as it is before court.
Obado’s Director of Press Nicholas Anyuor said the office won’t comment on “political issues as per now”, but said many residents in the county are sympathizing with the governor “which will obviously affect voting.”
