Migori county boda boda operators, numbering over 30,000 have vowed to stop paying taxes to county government.

In message to governor Okoth Obado, the group through Migori County BodaBoda Association said as from Friday they will stop paying taxes which stands at Sh100 a week.

“All members of the organisation and boda boda operators will stop from paying taxes, the is after a meeting with all representatives in all sub-counties,” Jack Ogola, chairman of Migori boda boda association said.

He said they took the drastic step after county officials failed to have a meeting with them.

“We know that taxes are paid to ease service delivery, but as a sector we have been by vulgarities of Covid 19 which has been made worse with hiked fuel prices,” he said.

Johnstone Wamaye, the organising secretary said they demanded for weekly collection to be reduced by half and the county failed.

“We have instructed our members not to attack county staff in enforcing this order, we will only take action after a meeting with the county,” he said.
