Migori Governor Okoth Obado has ordered the county’s inspectorate not to tax boda boda riders until a proper law is put in place.

He said this will give the county assembly more room to amend policies guiding collections in other business sectors as well.

During campaigns in Nyatike on Monday, Obado said the directive must be observed with immediate effect.

“We want youths working in the boda boda industry to stop paying the daily taxes until a policy guiding the collection is created.”

Last week, a group of operators requested the county government to reduce the amount of the cess they pay.

The county boss, however, said the move is not politically motivated.

He said the sector is critical for the county’s internal revenue hence the need for stricter regulations.
