A looming strike by Clinical Officers in Migori county has been averted after union officials and governor Okoth Obado met last week.

Monday last week striking nurses returned back to work after joining the almost three month striking doctors, making any industrial move by clinical officers to be catastrophic.

The officers, numbering over 200 clinical officers are demanding Sh20,000 health service allowance and call allowance which is Sh10,000.

“We signed a memorandum of understanding with Council of Governors for the call allowances which has been stalled by Salary and Remuneration Commission which is yet to sign the deal,” Austin Oduor, the deputy Secretary

General of Kenya Union of Clinical Officers said.

Oduor said they sat down with stakeholders to find an amicable solution as clinical officers’ help with 95 per cent of health operations like minor surgeries.

Chris Onditi, the Migori county representative of the union said they will have another meeting again in two weeks with the governor to seek the way forward.

Migori county private hospitals are currently overwhelmed by patients seeking doctors’ services with the strike.
