Obado launches Sh25m poultry processing plant to be completed in three months

Chicken farmers in Migori County are soon set to reap big for proposed multi-million chicken processing plant is constructed within proposed three months period.

The proposed chicken processing plant will be at Nyailing’a, Suna West Sub- County and is done with support of National Agricultural and Rural Inclusive Growth Project (NARIGP).

It will boost farmers income in the county as well lifting the county out of extreme poverty, governor Okoth Obado said.

“My government is determined to empower farmers at the grassroots through such chicken processing plant and other enriched agriculture value chain projects. We are already supporting close to 605 farmers in fish, chicken and dairy in 20 implementing wards across the county,” he said.

Obado pleaded with the farmers to consider chicken projects and other agricultural projects as important towards boosting food security and income.

County Agriculture Executive Valentine Ogongo also reiterated the need for the local farmers to embrace value addition agriculture projects geared towards sustainable change of their livelihoods.

The chicken plant is expected to cost Sh25 million and will benefit chicken farmer groups across the 8 Sub- Counties who dedicated to farming.

The implementing Rural Integrated Poultry, Cooperative and Marketing Society Director John Okeyo termed the project as historic and asked politicians not to politicise the construction work which he said will take only three months period to reach its final completion.
