Migori county ODM chairman Phillip Makabong’o now wants the national party office to discard the county governor Zachary Obado from taking part in the party affairs.

Makabong’o said that the governor is prepared to destroy the party and defect to his party saying that the party laws must apply to such people who have gone against the party laws.

He said that the governor has gone ahead to become self styled de facto leader of ODM party In every function he goes and now must be prohibited from imposing himself to be an ODM member for selfish political mileage.

“The governor cannot confuse the people of Migori for being in a party he is not subscribed to. We need everybody in the party but not claims of party ownership as the governor is doing and this is why he is always at loggerhead with the party officials from the region,” said Makabong’o.

Over the weekend an ODM rally in Kuria, Migori county, led by the Deputy party leader and Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya came to a halt after a scuffle arose when a section of the county brawny led by the county chairman Phillip Makabong’o refused to allow the governor to lead the activities claiming it was a party function yet Obado was neither a party official nor an ODM member.

The chairman strongly condemned the incident saying that the party must take a legal action on the governor for creating animosity among the residents of Migori County.

Speaking to press in Migori the chairman apologized to the Kuria community and the Migori residents for what transpired in the presence of other governors adding that the Migori county governor painted a negative image of the party yet he is not a member of the party within the confines of the law.

He further castigated the governor for his constant threat to the lives of ODM party officials and for his frequent misuse of the police to disrupt party functions which by all standing he is uninvited guest.

“Obado is a PDP member and is only mandated to handle affairs of his party rather than wasting his resources, energy and time on people who are out to popularize their party ahead of the general election,” added Makabong’o.

He asked the police to avoid taking sides in matters pertaining to security and instead use statutes that will enhance security and protection of all Kenyans regardless of their position in the society.
