Nyatike constituency should be key in informing the next Migori county government, governor aspirant Anne Anyanga has said.

She said Nyatike constituency should be in the forefront in shaping Migori county politics because of its highest registered voters and wealth in gold and copper minerals, and fishing industry in the county.

The electoral body IEBC estimates the constituency should have over 65,000 voters by 2017.

Anyanga said with these numbers and wealth all aspirants in the county elective positions from the constituency should be supported locally to help in negotiating with other regions for county positions.

“Nyatike must be in the next county government as we are currently locked out from leadership , that is not negotiable,” she said.

Her sentiments were shared by Women Representative aspirant Fatuma Mohammed who also hails from Nyatike.

She came second in last polls after losing to the incumbent Dennitah Ghati while Anyanga vied for governor position on ODM ticket where she was forced to be Edward Oyugi’s deputy.

“Nyatike should call shots in county politics, personally I was locked out in last polls through sham elections and this time round we will stand strong and form unity in voting pattern,” Mohammed said.

Macalder-Kanyarwanda MCA Eric Gogo said Nyatike already has a governor and women representative and urged all local leaders to support them.

“Anyone going contrary on this wish stands against the wish of its people,” Gogo said.
