Migori county government plans to quarantine livestock movement in Nyatike after an outbreak of deadly black quarter disease.

County Agriculture executive Isca Oluoch has warn the public from eating meat from dead animals following the outbreak.

Two animals died from the disease and veterinary officers are on the ground to respond to any cases reported amid their plan to conduct a county wide vaccination exercise.

“Public should not consumed meat from any dead animal to avoid diseases related infection and report any symptom of the disease so that they can get immediate treatment from her veterinary officers,” she saod.

She also advised public to avoid seeking treatment from quacks on disease treatment but to engage specialized veterinary officers to avoid more death out of ignorance.

Black quarter disease spreads easily when the animals ingest contaminated feeds and also contamination of wounds and it manifest itself with symptoms like high fever, loss of appetite, lameness in affected legs among others.
