Migori traders get free training

The Migori county government has helped train traders on use of better scales.

Migori town director of weight and measures Tobias Nyakiamo who led the training said traders in the county do not use the standard scales which has negatively affected trade

The traders were advised to get rid of the illegal measures and instrument for the use of trade to help promote the sector and safe guard customers..

“The use of illegal measure in Migori county especially Migori town is too much and we look forward to get rid of the activity to provide equal rights to the buyers and sellers,” he said.

Nyakiamo also said the law must be followed and the right procedure in trading sector that will improve the standards of trade in the county.

Similarly Nyakiamo requested the traders to create groups and cooperatives that will develop them as a sector and for easy access to government funds for their sector.

“Our department encourages the traders to work in groups as this will give us a better way of accessing the government funds and loans for the daily business,” he added

The county government has been working closely with Jua kali sector and Nyakiamo promised to bring more services that will boost the traders financially and education wise.

He also advised the artisans to improve their saving culture and always be vigorous in their daily duties to promote the economy of the county.

“The development process of the county starts with you traders and we shall work with our traders in improving the economy of our county”. He added

Most of the artisans who attended the training promised to work in hand with the county government and were lucky to receive free license form the county government.

“We have received a great training from the county team and this means they recognize us as a sector and with the new experience, we shall knowledge to develop the economy in the county,” said Harrison Odik, one of the Jua kali artisan.

The training has run for two days and the activity will take place all over the county and this will enable all traders to get direct access of the knowledge by the department.
