Migori governor Okoth Obado has said Migori will employ Early Childhood Education teachers in permanent and pensionable basis.
Obado there is a proposal currently at the county assembly which is adopted will see over 600 teachers in the sector walk home with a minimum of Sh14,000 basic salary.
He was speaking at Migori Boys High school after a three day competency based curriculum.
He noted that the new curriculum cannot be effective if the ECDE teachers are not equipped with relevant skills.
“My government has taken the first step to train all the ECDE teachers to equip themselves with the relevant knowledge, skills and attitudes that enables them impart relevant competencies consistent with the new changes in the curriculum to the young children.” He noted.
Obado reiterated his commitment to supplement the teacher shortage when resources are availed to counties.
“I’m aware of the staffing constraints in our centers arising from teacher shortage and I’m pledging to improve the welfare of the already employed teachers by transforming their status from contract to permanent and pensionable terms through a scheme of service.” he said.
