Migori residents have questioned a move by the County Assembly to move its sittings from the main chamber to a private facility.

This comes as the Members of County Assembly are set to hold their sittings at Maranatha Faith Assemblies hall in Suna West.

According to a statement from the County Assembly, the sittings that began on February 12 at the hall will run for the next three months due to a planned upgrading and renovation exercise of the chambers.

“At the same time, the Assembly of Migori will also improve the infrastructural Development within the precincts including operationalizing the Assembly cafeteria and building more Office spaces and committee rooms to ensure efficient service delivery to Migori residents,” the statement by House Speaker Boaz Okoth reads.

But a section of residents have sharply criticized the move by the County Assembly as wastage of public resources.

They questioned why the County Assembly did not schedule the renovation exercise to coincide with their just ended long recess.

“The County Assembly should come out clear and tell us how much they are going to spend during the period they will be at Maranatha,” a resident posed.
