All public hospitals in Migori county have had their services halted as clinical officers and nurses joined the nationwide strike.

Patients are forced to seek treatment in private clinics while others are moving to public hospitals in Tanzania.

Chris Onditi, the Migori county Kenya Union of Clinical Officers chairman said over 100 members crippled services in hospitals since Friday when they joined the strike.

“We don’t have any issues with the governors and we request the salaries commission to grade us as skilled workers to ensure we go back to work,” he said.

They join 639 nurses joined the nationwide strike in the county.

Jane Adhiambo, a patient said she will consider moving to a public hospital in Tanzania as she can not afford private hospitals in Kenya.

Dalmas Oyugi, the Migori county health officer said they are still hoping the national government to come in and help end the impasse.
