Migori county is currently broke and governor Okoth Obado has called for patience from residents as salaries to workers and service delivery takes a dive.

Obado said last months saary delayed for workers which was paid past mid-month because of delays by national government to release funds.

“We have been handicapped a bit, while our salaries came late we are yet to get any operation money and work in most departments have grounded into an halt,” Obado said.

Public hospitals have been running without basic medicine like pandol even gloves to nurses while major towns have grappled with garbage menace problems.

“If you go to our health facilities we can’t afford even the most basic items, you go to a government hospital you can’t even find panadol,” Obado said.

He added that Migori is “unable to collect garbage because we owe people a lot of debts we have tried to reinforce where we can, but we can do very little and hope the situation will change.”

The county boss said the problem has been hard to explain.

“This is something that wananchi can’t understand, we need citizens to understand these challenges and bear with us as currently things are not well,” he said.

He was speaking at his official residence in Migori town when he received Sh7milion worth of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) donated by European Union through the Kenya Red Cross Society.
