The County Government of Migori has launched the construction of ten youth polytechnics at a cost of Sh85 million in its sub counties to improve school completion rates.
Governor Zachary Okoth Obado also launched the construction of 120 Early Childhood Development classrooms to ensure each ward gets three such classrooms.
“It is time every parent must understand and know the value of youth polytechnics and enroll their children in these institutions. We are also committed to improving early child education in this county,” Obado said.
Speaking during the launch in Migori town, Governor Obado said the county government has also embarked on a massive recruitment of about 100 instructors for the youth polytechnics in the county.
“It is important to have enough instructors in these institutions to improve the quality of education for the students. This is a noble move that would benefit the county by improving level of literacy,” he said.
The County Executive Member (CEM) for Education, Thomas Maneno said the department has come up with an equipment scheme to purchase school equipment for the learning institutions in the county.
Through the scheme, Maneno said, the county government has managed to purchase school equipment worth Sh5 million school equipment.
“This will help us incorporate new subjects as recommended by the Technical Training Directorate. We still have plans to purchase more such equipment,” said Maneno.
The governor said that Migori county government has plans to provide adequate structures in the learning institutions for quality learning to the students.
He appealed to Standard Eight leavers to enroll in youth polytechnics for relevant trades to empower them with skills in efforts to reduce unemployment among the youth in the county.
“Skills they will get from polytechnics will enable them secure jobs and even make them self-reliant. I urge every youth who has not made to secondary schools to make use of these youth polytechnics,” Obado added.

This is a real grand idea for the county of Migori. We would love to see it kicking off immediately as it comes with huge returns. Our youth will have a way out to go through the hard economic times ahead. It will also help every household thrive in the maze of poverty and other afflictions.
Thank you His Exellency Zachary Obado and the entire county government of Migori. You have my support on this one.
