Over 1000 people living with disability in Migori County have complained to the county government over neglect.
They said the county government has sidelined them in county jobs and development activities going on in the county.

Addressing press today, The Network in Disability and Community development member chairman Mr. Benard Ochudho said that the county government has constantly failed to employ their members despite the employment opportunities advertised and applied for.

“The constitution recommends that 5%of the county jobs are to be left for the people living with disability, so far only two have been employed which does not amount to the 5%”, said Mr. Ochuodho.

He said the Migori county government had only employed two County Executive Committee members who are perfectly conducting their duties, a proof of ability despite their physical disabilities.

Ochuodho said that even their tender documents are not considered even after producing compliance certificates and relevant forms.

“We have been applying for the county tenders and we have not been given any chance to showcase our capability.” said Mr. Ochuodho.

As per the constitution, 30%of the county tenders are to be given to the people living with disability which has not been accomplished in Migori according to The Network in Disability and Community development chairman.

People living with disability are now calling upon the County Government to respond and give them their constitutional rights.
