Work on Sh234million upgrade of Lichota Airstrip in Suna West constituency officially begun with local legislator Peter Masara lauding the move.

Masara said work on the 88 acres airstrip will not only open up Suna West and Migori county, but the entire region with more business and tourism opportunity.

The legislator inspected the airstrip in company of Wiga MCA Roland Asiga.

“Expansion of the airstrip has been dream as Migori residents for long, it sits at a highway for cattle rustling at it will open up the area completely,” Masara said.

He said the airstrip has been dormant for long, with the neglected land being a fodder for cattle rustlers and crime.

“We believe we will have a center spring up at Ragana to boost trade unlike Kabunde airstrip in Homa Bay which looks dissolate,” he said.

Jamdos King’wara, a trader at Ragana center said they are optimist of better opportunities.

Halane Construction Company director Daudi Sheik, which is undertaking the work, said they were confident of completing the work within a year.
