Residents and parents at Kuoyo Kodalo Mixed Secondary School have vowed to prevent their principal Colince Oduka from accessing the school over poor results.

Carrying twigs and placards in demonstrations, they said that on January 6 when schools re-open, they will block all access road and prevent the principal from accessing the institution demanding Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha remove the head.

“We had 49 candidates at Kuoyo Kodalo in last year national examinations, the two top students scored a C minus, 27 scored a D minus with most scoring the lowest grade E plain,” Alfonce Otedo, a parent said.

They accused the principal, through absenteeism for not instilling disciplined in the school which has seen cases of teen pregnancy and drug abuse.

But Oduka told Migori News over the phone that claims by the demonstrators was fake.

He said the school had a mean of 3.0 which was better than 2.8 they got last year, and they have taken several students to university since he joined the institution nine years ago.

He wondered where parents got the results which are yet to be displayed.

He accused the parents of bringing weaker students to the school, “some who even score 100 marks out of 500 in KCPE,” delay and refute to pay fees “insisting they are waiting for bursaries,” while taken away brighter students after form one to other schools.

“How do you raise a performance of a day school that has not been doing well, with such attitude? Even when we try our best which university will they join?” he posed.

He said for nine years he has been at the school, several students have joined university saying even when he leaves “problems are brought parents who don’t pay fees, we cant pay for teachers if they don’t pay since TSC has only given us four teachers.”

He said since he joined the institution he has helped in building of a laboratory, classrooms, planted trees as a source of income, built a kitchen and is currently overseeing a girls dormitory coming up.
