An international NGO has donated to Migori County government health equipment worth Sh40million.

The Kenya Relief Organization which is situated within Migori town donated the equipment which included Ophthalmic YAG laser system for controlling body pressure worth Sh15million, eye, infant incubators among others.

The organisation is based in United States.

Speaking at Migori level four hospitals when he received the consignment county health Chief Officer Donald Jaleny said the donation will boost health care facilities in the county by offering referral services.

Jaleny revealed that county health facilities have been lacking most of necessary medical equipment that has undermined the health services being offered.

But despite millions of shillings worth of medical equipment, residents may not benefit from them because of installation challenges, inadequate skilled staffs to operate them and poor power supply.

County Director of Health Joel Gondi said that the electricity supply in Migori County is not constant and also the power generator they are using can not operate some of the equipments and therefore it might pose a big challenge to the ministry.

“We will look for an alternative power supply like solar energy to help solve the power problem in the health facilities,” Gondi said.

The director said that the donations will be distributed to other medical facilities across the county to improve medical services in all the facilities.
