Operation in Kehancha town came to a standstill as drivers and boda boda riders demonstrated against poor roads in the area.

Carrying twigs and chanting slogans against governor Okoth Obado, senator Wilfred Machage, area MP Mathias Robi and county government angry demonstrators moved across Ikerege and Tarang’anya centers where they planted bananas.

They also blamed the county government for collecting taxes when they work in three sub-counties but still have poor roads.

The roads they complained were in bad shape connected Migori, Kehancha, Isebania and Ntimaru towns.

“The cost of doing business has gone up as we have been faced with high maintenance cost due to the poor state of
the roads and call on Obado to make them better,” Kennedy Nyaitege, the treasurer of Matatu operators in the region said.

Angry demonstrators said they will continue with the strike and stop paying taxes to the county government until the roads will be made better.

“We feel marginalized and call on our elected leaders to move with speed and grade our roads as they had promised in the campaigns,” Fredrick Machage, a boda boda rider said.

They insisted to continue with demonstrations until the roads are repaired by elected leaders in the area.
