The Kanyawanga Alumni Association has paid Sh630,000 bursary to needy students at their alma mater.
Chairman Carellus Ogolla said a total of 87 needy students benefited from the gesture with 27 students are set to benefit from Sh 10000 each while the other 60 will each receive Sh 6000 school fees boost.
He said the amount was raised from the alumni’s 249 members and the “impressive academic performance in the recently released KCSE results as the impetus to the increased funding after donating sh 360,000 in the previous year.”
“It is through personal savings that we managed to raise the amount. We started the initiative in 2019 after learning that some of bright students were being sent out of school for lack of school fees,” he said.
School principal Jacob Mbogo lauded the initiative by the alumni terming it “extraordinary since majority of Kenyans do not revisit and support their former institutions of learning.”
“The alumni group in every school is a useful tool that if tapped by the ministry can improve the academic standards in the school,” Mbogo noted.
