JKUAT Medicine Student From Awendo Who Scored A- Appeals For Help To Continue Education

A Migori county university medical student is appealing for help to finish her education which risks being derailed over lack of fees.

Julie Ann Otieno, who is a first year clinical medicine student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) told Migori News she lacks tuition fees.

“I am contemplating dropping out until such a time when funds will be available, I have tried to apply HELB and other financial agencies loans and financial aid to no avail,” she said.

She said she is racing against the reporting date which is latest this month.

“Some students are already in school and I am still at home looking for help,” she said.

Otieno, who is survived by a single mother, claims her parents cannot meet the cost of furthering her education and hav advised her to have faith as she sources for funds.

Consequently, she is appealing to friends and well-wishers to support her pursue her lifetime noble dream of taking seven years in the University to train as a medic.

“I reported to university to secure the admission and currently I am a farmhand,” she said.

She has applied for a bursary from Awendo NG-CDF and Migori County governor’s scholarship Fund pending review and necessary approvals. 

Her aunt Beatrice Apiyo is helping her to secure a scholarship. She is also giving her some little money for upkeep which is not enough. 

She scored a mean Grade of A Minus last year’s KCSE at Nyabururu girls secondary school in Kisii. 

Apiyo claimed that with some little donations they had managed to raise some money to take her to attend the first trimester, but may not sustain subsequent semesters. Her latest plea is to HELB – AMREF Health Africa Nursing Scholarship Fund to enable her pursue her education. 

Her donations are being channeled through 011504176 foster parents.
