Migori county commissioner Boaz Cherutich have warned residents that they risk arrest and fines if they follow governor Okoth Obado’s directive not to wear facemasks.

Cherutich while addressing the press in his office, said claims by politicians that Migori county was a Covid 19 free zone was fake.

Kuria West MP Mathias Robi has also issued similar remarks against Covid 19.

Boaz Cherutich speaking to the press in Migori town on Thursday said it is sad that several politicians have claimed that Migori is Covid 19 free.

“I roundly condemn politicians who have been misleading people to flout rules by government to control spread of the virus, the rules are on and we will arrest and out in jail those flouting the rules,” Cherutich said.

He said the statement is misleading and false and those following these politicians will face “arrest and face hefty penalties of suspects who flout regulations.”

While speaking from his Rapogi home, Obado claimed that God’s grace was enough to protect residents against Covid 19 and the economy should be opened.

He also declared that all markets which were closed earlier will be re-opened.

“You see today I am not wearing a facemasks because I have looked at the country and I have seen that /god has blessed us and removed this issue of Covid 19,” Obado said.

He said that in February he suspected of having Covid 19 after experiencing coughing symptoms but he was healed.

But Cherutich said all markets remain closed until government offers regulations on how to open them.
