Government has issued an arrest warrant against a contractor upgrading the Motemorabu-Subakuria-Masaba to bitumen standards for delays.
Migori commissioner Boaz Cherutich said Fuad Mohammed the manager of Pepeta Holdings Limited should be arrested for abandoning the work assigned to him in 2017.
He said the Criminal Investigation Department in Migori will trace and arrest the businessman.
Cherutich was speaking when he led he committee of the Migori County Development Implementation and Coordination (CDICC) which verifies all National government projects in the county.
The committee found that despite not being on the site, works that commenced on June 12, 2017 was to be done within 24 months but to date the contractor has only clocked 46.14 per cent overall physical progress.
At the site, the committee only a handful of workers lazing within the compound and they complained of not being paid for the past five months.
Cherutich said the arrest will be led by county CID boss John Koini.
“The contract sum of Sh1, 066,671,852, the contractor has been paid Sh326, 988,034.90 representing 30.65 percent of the contract sum, yet there is no substantial work happening on the road,” he said.
The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) Engineer John Nyasoko termed he contractor as “troublesome” and said the 21 kilometer road reported no activity for the past one month.
