Despite relinquishing the seat to the current holder Pamela Odhiambo, Ghati has maintained close ties with ODM party and leader Raila Odinga.

Kisii University lecturer Nick Oluoch and a political pundit said Ghati move will be followed keenly as she will help unlock support for other candidates.

“She stands to gain more as a female senator or the deputy governor, a seat the BBI proposes for an opposite gender which she fits the bill with her Kuria background being and added advantage,” Oluoch said.

Ghati supporters and confidants have said they have gone back to the drawing table to get the best seat and concentrate their energy on.
