Migori county first lady Helen Obado has called on the women and youths to form Saccos to be able to benefit from government funding.

Obado said that women will only benefit from Migori county government which is ready to provide funds to them only through Saccos.

He said if saving culture is embraced, Migori will fully be empowered economically.

She was speaking in Central Kamagambo ward in Rongo Sub-County when she was handing over incubators and hatcheries to Rongo central women SACCO for her project dabbed ‘Kuku ni Pesa’.

The project was rolled out three years ago to boost chicken production in the county.

Obado said similar projects have been rolled to all the women SACCO in the 40 wards of Migori county.

“Other leaders, despite political difference, should join in and assist women in ensuring that they are empowered economically,” she said.

She challenged women not only to go for the poultry project but also to get in to other activities that will see them sustain their families and hence the society as a whole.

On her part, the Organizing secretary for Rongo Central women Sacco Elizabeth Akelo, urged the women, to strengthen their organisations.
