Migori County Government has set aside Sh150 million for the construction of roads in its eight sub counties. Each ward in every sub county will have two such roads.

Migori Governor, Zachary Okoth Obado, said plans are underway to open up roads across the county that will cover about 215 Kilometres to enhance movement and accessibility.

“It is time we have to develop this county. Road infrastructure is vitally important. It is through this this that we shall ensure we improve trade and movement of our people,” he said.

Obado said that already the county has plans to ensure the roads are made to the required standard to have the quality that will serve the purposes.

He told traders that the county government has also allocated Sh28.5 million to fund fencing of 100 major markets across the county. The fencing will be done by the youth groups that have been identified by the county’s Trade ministry.

“Each such market will be furnished with modern toilets to provide sanity to the traders and to help reduce cases of disease infections,” Obado said.

He advised leaders to shun divisive and petty politics that could interfere with development plans that had been put in place by the county government.

The Governor was addressing locals in Otho, Nyatike Sub County, where he presided over the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of Otho-Nyakona-Aonge Dhiang’ road in Got Kachola Ward.

“Time has come that we have to shun bad politics in this county to give room for serious development. Migori County has done a lot, and is still doing more. We need support from our local political leaders to achieve development plans,” he said.

He advised youth groups to put tree nurseries from where the county government will buy the seedlings and again engage the groups in planting
them.

“This is one of the plans we have to empower our youths,” he said.

The Governor said the county government has plans to avail about 31, 000 title deeds to people in Nyatike Sub County, adding that already 11, 000 deeds are ready for collection.

“In disaster reduction strategies, we are actively seeking development partners to build dykes and dams to permanently alleviate problem of flooding. We shall also install electric gargets at the mines as efforts to curb death caused by gas poisoning,” he said.
