County ODM distances itself from Owiro impeachment

Migori ODM branch distanced themselves from the impeachment of assembly majority leader Johnson Owiro.

Owiro, the Central Sakwa member was replaced by his North Kamagambo colleague Richard Solo.

Speaking to Migori News at the county headquarters officials said they are treating the impeachment as a “rumour and something which doesn’t exist.”

Secretary General Joseph Olala said that they have restrained as they wait for court ruling on the matter after Owiro obtained restraining order preventing Solo from being sworn in.

“We only heard about that from the press and through word of mouth and so far we have not been approached in anyway,” Olala said.

Argwins Obar, the youth chairperson said they were not consulted in any way and backed Owiro for the seat.

“We were not given any recommendation and the issue has taken an ugly personal view showing the rot in the county government,” Obar said.

George Webster, youth vice chair said MCAs elected on ODM and Cord affiliated have given them a raw deal and wanted the matter dropped.

But speaking Deputy Speaker Boaz Okoth said the matter of picking a majority leader rests with the assembly and not the party.

“Constitution allows for assembly to vote in and remove a majority leader not only in party but coalition,” he said.
