Nyatike MP Tom Odege and Kanyasa MCA Jackiepol Ongoro have called on public administrators to ease application rocess for national identification cards ahead of referendum.

The two leaders said residents have always complained of corruption and bureaucracy in acquring the vital document.

“Migori borders Tanzania which requires vetting process, sadly this has been abused by our administrators,” he said.

Odege said after passing of the BBI referendum push by majority of counties, the country was is ready to change the 2010 constitution.

The legislator said residents have often complained of corruption and delays in issuing of national identification cards especially for married women.

“Most women are married before taking the national identification cards and are still required to prove their residency which has caused some to attain the age of over thirty years without the document,” he said.

Ongoro said focus should now shift to voter registration drive and Migori and ODM zones, which were considered anti-government, should use the goodwill of handshake brought by ODM leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“We had complained before of delays from government, since we we are in government we will ensure we shore up our numbers not only for the referendum but also 2022 general elections,” she said.

The two were speaking at St. Gabriel Kiranda Catholic Church during the homecoming cerebration of Bishop Michael Ochieng’ Odiwa who hails from the area.
