Bukira East Women Sacco in Kuria West Sub-County has threatened to stop participating in Migori first lady Hellen Obado ‘Kuku ni Pesa’ project alleging mismanagement.

Speaking to Migori News they complained of Sh500 being asked to run the poultry project even after Obado gave them Sh40,000 and the incubator during a recent launch.

Bukira East Women Sacco comprised of 26 groups.

Christine Mwita a member said they were forced to pay Sh1,000 during registration as fee but the leaders have not accounted for this money.

She said the contribution and initial seed money was enough to fund the incubation and thereafter the feeding of chicks from expected 1,080 eggs.

Mwita faulted the Sacco management committee for putting other members in dark especially on funds expenditure.

She alleged members are dissatisfied with the way the committee is running the Sacco.

However Hellen Tondo the Sacco chairperson said the allegations are false.

Tondo said they usually share expenditure records with the members during monthly meetings.

She said the First lady brought for them incubator, 1080 eggs, Sh40,000 and 6 bags of chickens feeds.

“This was to fund incubation process and other minor expenditure, it was not enough as we used it to buy brooders, feeders and paying electricity bills,” she said..

Tondo revealed that the eggs have now hatched 724 chicks from 1080 eggs and they want each member pay Kshs 500 for buying feeds and paying other expenses.

“In fact we are organizing for a funds drive on September 9 which will assist us boost our project further,” Tondo said.
